We are Centered, Gathered, and Rooted.

Thoroughly convinced of God’s love for his creation we are a church who forms communities of Jesus followers called Missional Communities that organize themselves around God’s mission of reconciliation in their neighbourhoods.  We seek to make room for all who join our church as they enter from unique places in their personal journeys and with unique personalities and sets of gifts and strengths.  While we are a collective of unique individuals we pursue a common Lord, a common mission, and a common life together.  We are Centred, Gathered, and Rooted.

CENTERED

We centre our lives around the confession that Jesus is Lord of all and the invitation of God to participate in His mission to reconcile all things to himself.

God has demonstrated his extravagant love for us through Christ and in response we love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength and love our neighbours as ourselves. As such, we view our thinking, money, resources, possessions, time, goals, work, and relationships in light of Jesus’ life, ministry, death, and resurrection and the mission God has invited us into. This is reflected in our reliance upon the Holy Spirit, the central role of Scripture in our lives, a life of prayer and worship, and the enjoyment of all that God has given us on this earth.

GATHERED

We gather around God’s mission in the world, forming a community that announces and demonstrates God’s kingdom.

We believe the primary function of God’s people is to gather around His mission of reconciliation in order to become a visible representation of his kingdom*. Jesus used the image of family to describe the kinds of relationships his followers would have as his gathered people. Consequently, our relationships with each other are akin to those of a healthy family where every member is valued equally, is a full participant, where all barriers that could divide are broken down, and conflict is resolved in a healthy manner. We support each other in our parenting, marriages, single lives, and childhood, teenage, adult, and senior years by sharing our time, resources, and homes with each other. We gather regularly and spontaneously to eat, pray, worship, learn, serve, and play together and to disciple one another, and we find living in close proximity to one another is helpful in fulfilling these practices. We acknowledge our need for each other and take our responsibilities to church family seriously. Finally, as family we accept our responsibility to regularly contribute financially towards the cost of sustaining Common Life.

*God’s kingdom is wherever His rule is obeyed and His generous and gracious love is demonstrated.

ROOTED

We root ourselves in the neighbourhoods to which God has sent us through a common rhythm of life that embodies God’s kingdom.

Our common rhythm of life consists of 6 practices that allow us to be faithfully present to God, our neighbours, and one another. We find our common rhythm of life is key to announcing and demonstrating God’s kingdom and so we are committed to individually and corporately living these practices out in our day to day lives in our neighbourhoods. Members of Common Life fulfill these practices in unique ways according to their personalities, their places in their spiritual journeys, and their unique gifts and strengths.  To create space for these practices, we do our best to live lives of simplicity and availability so that we have the time and resources to participate in God’s mission and in our church family. Additionally, we regularly share stories with one another of how we are learning to live deeper into each of our 6 practices.
